Cute dinosaurs

I have a new series of prints I am starting. Dinosaurs and balloons! I call the High in the Sky, three sizes available, printed with archival ink on Epson paper. I have two done already with more to come! Anything anyone would like to see in the future? Brontosaurus or Stegosaurus perhaps?

I am practicing my characterization. I want to try and stylize something while still maintaining my own voice. Hopefully they come across that way.

Illustration Friday: Danger

Every now and then I like to participate in Illustration Friday. This week, the inspiration word is: Danger. I love danger! It makes things so much more fun then plain old, mildly exciting. My first thought was to do Danger Mouse, but I decided to kill two birds with one stone and used this week for my Monster Monday feature on Gagmen.net. I felt this was a good way to portray something that wasn't an in your face kind of danger, but more of a lurking potential danger!

This week's topic is Trouble.  I have been really getting into Doctor Who and nothing says "trouble" like a Dalek sneaking around.

Illustration Friday Challenge - Octopus, flying the coop

I really like the idea of flying mollusks.  I draw them quite a bit. The word for Illustration Friday, is Octopus. What a word for me! So this is the drawing I did over lunch breaks and such for this week, it's coming in a little it late sadly.

Illustration Friday - Shakespeare's Chimp

So the topic this week for Illustration Friday is Skull. I don't really have a reason for this image, other then the fact that it's a skull. That's being held by a chimpanzee. I thought of it while at church. Not that I think there is some connection between being in church and an ape holding a human skull. But I do think that my subconscious has a really good idea going here and it really wanted to get it out in the open. I don't have a meaning for it yet, but I would like to hear what you think, so leave a comment!

A doodle I did in a day

This link, which I am sharing in this manner for the first time, I try and do every day, I dont always get it done, but I am trying. And that is a 30 min sketch. I drew this one while watching the show, White Collar.  If you dont know the show, this is benign criminal genius, Mozzie, who is walking his "son". Who really is a doll stuffed with James Bond like tools and gadgets.

Unicorn without a horn

This is an illustration I did for my brother in law. He has a funny podcast called, Gagmen. Its a podcast for the beleaguered Dungeon Master who needs some punch added to his/her campaign.  A group of comedians world build and explore crafting new ways to enhance the gaming experience.  Its also really funny and the production value is well done. After they finish beating a campaign to death, they post a pdf with art (hence my contribution) and words and everything for you to download! The most recent episode has this illustration to go with the story.  I am pretty proud of it.  There are of course some issues that I think I could have done more with it, but overall I am happy with it. What is really fun, I drew and colored this completely from start to finish on my Galaxy Note 8. All the thumbnails and sketching started in my tablet. I used Sketchbook Pro as my drawing app. The S-pen stylus is great to work with. But it is a little skinny, I would like one that was a little thicker. Illustration Friday

This week, the topic for Illustration Friday is "Secret". The title of my piece is "Dead men tell no tales". It was drawn on my Galaxy note 8 with the Sketchbook Pro app.

And the winner is...

This is a bitter sweet post. I wish it was all good news regarding the Help For Hazel fundraiser, you know, that she receieved the surgery she needed and all went well. Sadly, that wasnt what happened. Hazel went in and had some x-rays taken, her lungs and body cavity were full of tumors. The doctor didn't give her long to live. We made the terrible decision to put her down the next morning. That was last Friday. She was a wonderful rabbit. We miss her a lot. Because she didn't make it, we stopped the fundraiser early. But we still had the drawing for the prize painting.  The hat is all the names and tickets of the donors. The second picture is the winning ticket pulled from the hat, thanks Rachel!

Cancer is back at it again.

Bad news everyone,
Our little rabbit, Hazel, is once again growing tumors on her belly. This time the tumor is over 6cm long. A smaller one can be felt just below the big one. She was jumping and playing around until a few weeks ago when I think the tumors just got to big to be comfortable. The surgery this time is going to be about $650 for x-rays and removal. The vet wants to see if there are more nasty things inside her before exploring around in her chest cavity. So, this time around, I'm going to be putting up the offer of a custom painting by me, as a fundraiser to help with the surgery. I know it seems like a lot of money for a little rabbit, but I really like her, she is our only rabbit that hasn't destroyed any of my expensive electronics. And she's messy like me. And she's really cute. A new month is ahead of us.

Good news everyone! This is the first day of April. I was going to post a picture of me with a shaved head saying I've given up art to become a monk. But then I didn't. So instead of an April fool's prank, I figured I'd continue where my last post left off. Of course now that it's a new month, I'm going to post all my daily drawings from the last month including the ones I've already posted, because I think it would be fun to see them all together. The weird thing is that I started drawing, dare I say it, cute things toward the end of the month. I started with the word "Fresh" and drew a rat monster hanging fresh laundry up to dry. I ended the month with a bunny jumping for joy. Why the transition from monster to cute, I don't really know. It's baffling. Whatever the reason, it's been really fun to challenge myself to do a drawing a day and then share it. It's been enough fun that I am going to use Rhianna Wurman's list again for April. In May, I think I'll do my own list and maybe have a prize for someone who does a drawing EVERY day. We'll see about the prize, if you like the idea or hate it leave me a note in the comments. Good news, I'm still hitting every daily doodle. The topics are Nature, Favorite Letter, Treasure, and In the Woods.

Thus this March...

Good news everyone, I am going to take part in a daily doodle contest of strength. I found a list of words to draw every day on Instagram and thought it would be fun to take the challenge. Then I thought, hey, this would be great to get me blogging more regularly. As you are reading this you might be thinking "But today is the 2nd of March." And you would be right.
